Title: Civil-Structural Engineer V-VII

Reports To: Manager of Civil-Structural

Job Purpose:

Provide engineering, design, calculations, analysis, drawing review, and other activities related to civil and structural engineering.  Responsibilities will increase with experience.   Senior-level position for a degreed engineer working without supervision (possible Department Manager position).

Essential Duties:

  • Senior level position for a degreed engineer.  Supervisory position responsible for review and P.E. stamping of design documents.
  • Perform assignments independently using professional knowledge and abilities in support of a project team.
  • Maintain a good work ethic, i.e. cooperative, hard-working, focused and aware of his responsibilities and limitations.
  • Work well with other disciplines and experience levels.
  • Skilled with Internet searches, excel spreadsheets, and data mining.
  • Performance of calculations for site development, structural steel members and/or concrete foundations.
  • Develop working knowledge of ASCE Codes and Standards, as well as ASTM and other industry standards.
  • Willingness to take direction and try any assigned task.
  • Prepare specifications and technical reports requiring minimal to no review.
  • Able to support and direct designers.
  • Perform lead engineer functions, communicate with customers, and develop cost estimates and proposals.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

Title: Civil/Structural Designer

Reports To: Civil/Structural Manager Department: Civil/Structural

Job Purpose: Performs assignments designed to develop technical knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related CAD / technical tasks.

Essential Duties:
Exercise of sound technical judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections of technical alternatives.
Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of a more experienced designer. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes. Prepares structural and site development design drawings of civil facilities for assigned industrial, commercial, and public sector engineering projects on AutoCAD. Performs construction management and field engineering duties on field construction projects as assigned.

Title: Automation Specialist I-III

Reports To: Automation Manager & Manager of Instrumentation

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is writing and implementing automation programs for industrial applications. The Specialist will be required to specify, program, install, and troubleshoot automation systems.

The Automation Specialist Levels I – III are junior to mid-level positions for degreed engineers working under the direct supervision of the Automation Specialist IV and/or Department Manager. Among the essential duties are to participate in training experiences, learn new skills, and to demonstrate increasing proficiency and expertise with the Essential Duties listed below. Years of experience do not guarantee promotion to a higher level, rather mastery of engineering skills will determine progression to higher levels.

Essential Duties:

  • Developing control system architecture, panel design drawings, instrument data sheets, IO drawings, programming and HMI configuration using Allen Bradley and Rockwell software architecture. On-Site Support including systems configuration and implementation, troubleshooting, preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Perform complete I/O checks on all equipment attached to the PLC and fix any wiring, HMI, or programming errors in a timely manner.
  • Develop procedures for use and train operators
  • Configure Allen Bradley networks via RS Linx Classic and RS Linx Enterprise to communicate through Ethernet IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet for processor and HMI data flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, or other relative degree.

Required Licenses or Certificates:

  • Valid driver’s license for state of residence.
  • Valid passport or the ability to get one.
  • Valid major credit card for travel expenses (reimbursed monthly based on expense account submittal).

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 0 to 5+ years of experience in the automation field. Specialist could have more experience but this does not guarantee promotion to higher level. Programming capabilities will dictate engineering level category.

Title: Automation Specialist IV

Reports To: Automation Manager & Manager of Instrumentation

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is writing and implementing high-level automation programs for industrial applications. The Specialist will be required to specify, program, install, and troubleshoot automation systems.

  • PLC experience: Rockwell Control Logix, Toolkit, Panelview HMI, Modicon, GE, Siemens.
  • DCS experience: Provox, DeltaV, Honeywell, TDC/PKS, ABB.
  • Control panel design.
  • IO specification, configuration and programming, and functional control specification.
  • Panel configuration, power distribution, control room plans, module wiring, electrical area classifications.
  • Commissioning and startup experience a must.

Title: Instrumentation Engineer I-III

Reports To: Manager of Instrumentation/Automation

Job Purpose:

The primary purposes of this position are instrumentation design, calculations, and other activities, such as instrument hardware specifications and instrument database updating.

The Instrumentation Engineer I – III is a junior to mid-level position for a degreed engineer working under the direct supervisor of an Engineer IV or Department Manager. Among the essential duties are to participate in training experiences, learn new skills, and to demonstrate increasing proficiency and expertise with the Essential Duties listed below.  Years of experience do not guarantee promotion to a higher level, rather mastery of engineering skills will determine progression to a higher level.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and maintain instrument databases.
  • Provide support/develop specific details for PID controls.
  • Develop instrument hardware specifications using ISA Standards and other industry standards.
  • Perform assignments to develop professional knowledge and abilities in support of a project team.
  • Participate in development or lead the development of control strategies and functional specifications.
  • Prepare instrument data sheets, specifications and technical reports requiring review and oversight of Engineer IV or Department Manager.
  • Help design and check control panels, including shop testing.
  • Supervise design of the IO wiring for field devices including motors and VFDs.
  • Develop and apply installation detail drawings.
  • Support designers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • E.I.T. Certification Preferred.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Prior experience in the engineering field preferred.

Title: Mechanical/Piping Engineer V-VII

Reports To: Manager of Mechanical /Piping

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to provide design details, calculations, pipe stress analysis, specifications/data sheets, and all other mechanical/piping-related engineering activities. Perform calculations to size and specify mechanical equipment, piping, ductwork, and HVAC equipment related to the Biogas Industry, District Energy Systems, and other Process Industries, and to create contract drawings and specifications. Support construction activities related to the contract drawings and specifications in the form of performing equipment submittal reviews and answering contractors’ requests for information prior to and during construction.

The Mechanical/Piping Engineer V-VII is a senior-level position for a degreed engineer working under the direct supervision of the Department Manager. Among the essential duties is to review the work of junior to mid-level degreed engineers. Years of experience do not guarantee promotion to a higher level, rather mastery of engineering skills will determine progression to a higher level.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform and manage assignments to develop professional engineering knowledge and technical capabilities while supporting a multi-discipline project team.
  • Perform/review hydronic system pressure drop calculations and pump selections.
  • Perform/review heat and mass balances calculations.
  • Develop/review piping, valve, and insulation specifications specific to each project.
  • Perform/review duct static pressure drop calculations, fan sizing, and duct sizing.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Possess working knowledge of ASHRAE Manuals and the ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Manual.
  • Possess working knowledge of ASME piping and pressure vessel codes and ASTM and other industry standards.
  • Prepare/review technical specifications and engineering reports with minimal review and oversight from Department Manager.
  • Support and direct Designers.
  • Perform lead engineer function (Optional P.E. exam after 5 years in responsible charge of Engineering.)
  • Manage discipline-specific projects, adhering to established budgets and schedules, troubleshooting, and mechanical/piping technical support.
  • Continue professional development (Caesar II Pipe Stress Analysis, Venture Procedures, and other systems necessary to perform job duties).
  • Train Engineers I-IV.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • P.E. Certification preferred.

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant engineering experience desired. Level placement (Engineer V-VII) will be determined by demonstrated technical capability and complexity of prior project work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced understanding in mechanical and HVAC equipment and piping design.
  • Understanding of Caesar II pipe stress analysis.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Title: Mechanical Piping Designer II

Reports To: Department Manager

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform Mechanical/Piping system design work either under the direction of the Lead Mechanical/Piping Engineer or Department Supervisor.

The Mechanical/Piping Designer II is a mid-level position for a degreed designer or engineer working under direct supervision. Among the essential duties are to participate in training experiences, learn new skills, and to demonstrate increasing proficiency and expertise with the Essential Duties listed below. Years of experience do not guarantee promotion to a higher level, rather mastery of engineering skills will determine progression to higher levels.

Essential Duties:

  • Possess the essential skills of piping and hanger design, HVAC duct and equipment, field surveys, archive diving, and industrial equipment layout.
  • Work under the supervision of a senior designer or engineer.
  • Develop knowledge of 3-D modeling of piping, equipment, and surrounding structures.
  • Perform design activities requiring some supervision.
  • Route pipe with relative ease and/or supervision & handles related field assignments.
  • Prepare service estimates for design/drafting and capital cost estimates for piping and mechanical equipment.
  • Coordinate with other designers and seek senior assistance when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Construction Technology and computer aided design (CAD).
  • Some trade experience as a plumber, pipefitter, or mechanic is desirable.
  • 3+ years of job-related experience specific to mechanical and piping design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in 3-D Modeling. Preferably AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Knowledge and design of P&IDs and how they apply to industrial processes
