Mechanical/Piping Engineer I-III

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to perform calculations to size and specify mechanical equipment, piping, ductwork, and HVAC equipment related to the Biogas Industry, District Energy Systems, and other Process Industries, to create contract drawings and specifications. Support construction activities related to the contract drawings and specifications in the form of performing equipment submittal reviews and answering contractor’s request for information prior to and during construction.

The Mechanical/Piping Engineer I – III is a junior to mid-level position for a degreed engineer working under the direct supervisor of an Engineer IV or Department Manager. Among the essential duties are to participate in training experiences, learn new skills, and to demonstrate increasing proficiency and expertise with the Essential Duties listed below. Years of experience do not guarantee promotion to a higher level, rather mastery of engineering skills will determine progression to a higher level.

Essential Duties:

• Perform assignments to develop professional knowledge and abilities in support of a project team.
• Develop skills with internet searches, excel spreadsheets, and data mining.
• Perform hydronic system pressure drop calculations and pump selections
• Perform heat and mass balances calculations.
• Edit piping, valve and insulation specifications specific to each project.
• Perform duct static pressure drop calculations, fan sizing, and duct sizing. Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
• Develop working knowledge of ASHRAE Manuals, and the ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Manual.
• Develop working knowledge of ASME piping and pressure vessel codes, ASTM and other industry standards.
• Prepare specifications and technical reports requiring review and oversight of Engineer IV or Department Manager.
• Support designers.
• Possess a willingness to learn Caesar II Pipe Stress Analysis if not already proficient
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Certification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• E.I.T. Certification strongly preferred

Experience and Skill Requirements:

• Prior experience in the engineering field preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Knowledge of mechanical equipment and piping design.

Incumbent will work primarily in an office environment and will be required to sit for extended periods of time and move between offices and buildings as needed. Incumbent will be required to use a computer with keyboard, telephone or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed. Incumbent will be required to independently travel to outside construction, meeting, and event locations.

Incumbent must be able to see, hear, speak, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

The work location is a climate controlled indoor office. Incumbent will be expected to work in several projects/assignments simultaneously and may need to work outside of core operating hours as requested. Travel to outside locations will expose the incumbent to weather conditions.
